Applications open for Local Sporting Champions Grants
25 November 2009 Jenny is reminding local sporting organisations, parents, friends and coaches of promising junior sportsmen and sportswomen to apply for federal Local Sporting Champions grants. The Local Sporting Champions program offers individuals $500 and teams $3000 funding for assistance with travel, accommodation, uniform and equipment costs.
The grants are administered by the Australian Sports Commission.
‘We all know that travelling long distances for interstate or national sporting competitions can hit the family finances, especially during these tougher economic times,”
“However, we certainly don’t want our local sporting talent missing out on career opportunities just because of short term financial hurdles,”
“Many promising young athletes from our local community have benefitted so far from this grant, representing an incredibly diverse range of sports from Volleyball to Artistic Skating,”
“When it comes to competing in sport, every little bit counts and these young champions have been all the better for it,”
“Importantly, the program has now been expanded to include coaching staff, umpires and referees, and I encourage all that are eligible to apply.” Ms Macklin said.
