Banyule receives $3.9 million to boost local infrastucture and services
2 September 2009
Jenny Macklin MP today welcomed news that Banyule Council will receive over $3.9 million from the Rudd Government’s Financial Assistance Grants Program this financial year.
The funding will be delivered to Banyule Council to provide a range of health, community, recreational and environmental services, and maintain infrastructure such as roads.
Ms Macklin said that local residents expect good roads, decent libraries, well-maintained parks and pools, regular garbage pick-ups, and high quality child care and other services.
“We are providing councils with the highest ever level of Federal funding to deliver better services locally.
“Banyule Council, like every shire and council, has its own particular challenges and priorities.
“That’s why these grants are untied and can be spent by councils and shires on local priorities.
“Local government is the closest level of government to the people and is critical to holding communities together.” Ms Macklin said.
Banyule will receive its quarterly Financial Assistance Grant payment in the week of 31 August 2009.
