12 October 2009
Federal Member for Jagajaga, Jenny Macklin MP has hailed the enormous diversity and depth of local sporting talent from across our local community who have been recognised at her annual Sport Achievement Award on Monday, 12th October.
Sixteen local champions representing a total of ten sports clubs have been recognised for their personal sporting achievements, contributions to their club and dedication to their sport.
Ms Macklin joined family and friends of award recipients to reflect on their amazing achievements.
“The stories of those recognised at these awards are really amazing,”
“We have hailed the incredible efforts of those from such clubs as the Eltham Bowling Club, Banyule City Soccer Club, Eaglemont Tennis Club, Eltham Little Athletics and the Macleod Cricket Club,”
“Some have had to overcome serious injury and personal hardship to have achieved what they have,”
“The depth of talent on show at these awards extends all the way to International level competition, and is a tremendous reflection of the deep sporting prowess of our local area,”
“And there are also those recognised at these awards that are the backbone of their clubs; those people that dedicate themselves to training our next generation of athletes, or to supporting the running of their club from day to day,”
“Together, they have all done our local sporting community proud and I congratulate them all.” Ms Macklin said.
