Funding for Carer Respite Services Extended

27 May 2008

Nillumbik Community Health Service will be provided with over $77,000 as part of the Federal Government’s National Respite for Carers Program and the Commonwealth Carelink Program.

“It is essential that we provide support to carers who look after some of the most vulnerable members of our community” Ms Macklin said.

“This grant will help Nillumbik Community Health Service deliver essential counselling & respite services for carers”

Ms Amanda Murphy, CEO of Nillumbik Health Service, said she was very pleased that this funding has been extended.

“This funding will allow Nillumbik Community Health Service to continue to offer a variety of programs to carers and the people they care for.”

“At present we offer services 6 days a week, with programs for the frail aged and socially isolated, young people, people with dementia as well as respite services for carers”

“The extension of this grant will give Nillumbik Community Health Service the certainty they need to plan and manage their operations into the future” Ms Macklin said.

Across the country there are 2.6 million carers who support people requiring care due to disability or age.

Carers who want more information about these services should contact their local Commonwealth Respite and Carelink Centre on 1800 059 059 or the Nillumbik Health Service on 9430 9100.
