Help save on energy costs
25 June 2008
Jenny Macklin MP, Federal Member for Jagajaga, has welcomed three new initiatives from the Rudd Government to help householders save energy and money while reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
These three new measures are:
- a new television labelling scheme to enable consumers to identify the most energy efficient TVs at point of sale;
- a new guide to help householders and in particular renovators identify ways to incorporate energy saving measures into their homes; and
- the accelerated phase-out of traditional incandescent light bulbs
“As a community we know we have to do what we can to reduce our energy use”, Ms Macklin said.
“With one in four Australians buying a new television each year, combined with TVs being the fourth-largest user of electricity, behind water heating, domestic refrigeration and lighting, having a new energy labeling scheme is very important.
“The new guide to help housholders and renovators learn about ways to be as energy efficient as possible is freely available on the web at:
www.yourhome.gov.au/renovatorsguide/index.html, or ring my office on 9459 1411 and a copy will be sent out to you.
“Since coming to office, the Rudd Government has announced and funded $1 billion in measures including our Green Loans program, assistance for landlords to install insulation in rental homes and the expansion of labelling and new standards for energy-efficient appliances.
