Jenny Macklin calls on community to put forward ideas for new Early Learning and Care Centres
10 June 2008
The Member for Jagajaga, Jenny Macklin MP, today called on community members and organisations to put forward ideas for new childcare centres in our local area.
The Rudd Labor Government has announced it will build 222 new Early Learning and Care Centres throughout Australia.
‘Thirty-eight Early Learning and Care Centres have already been announced in the recent Budget, including a new childcare centre to be located in Hurstbridge which is great news for that community”, Ms Macklin said.
“The next phase of the Government’s plan is to now build 222 centres across the country to improve early childhood education – this could include areas of need in our local community.
‘We are very keen for community members and groups to approach the Government with ideas about where these new centres should be located, so we can ensure they best meet the needs of our children.’
The key considerations for the new childcare sites will be that they are located in an area of unmet demand for child care, and wherever possible, be located on school grounds, TAFEs, universities or other community facilities.
‘I strong encourage any community member with an idea for a site to complete the registration form at www.oececc.gov.au and email it to
260centres@deewr.gov.au
‘If my office can be of any assistance with the process, please contact us on 9459 1411’.
