Jenny Macklin MP invites emergency volunteer support fund applications

11 February 2008

Jenny Macklin MP, Federal Member for Jagajaga, today invited local volunteer groups to apply for funding through the National Emergency Volunteer Support Fund (NEVSF).

This volunteer support funding is intended to assist agencies to develop recruitment, retention and training initiatives.

The NEVSF focuses on emergency management volunteers in recognition of their needs and the significant front line role they play in reducing vulnerability and enhancing community safety.

“The National Emergency Volunteer Support Fund has seen applications submitted to cover a wide range of work since its introduction in 2004”, Ms Macklin said.

“Locally we have a range of groups who provide a fantastic service to our community and who may be eligible for a grant.

“The following project types were funded in 2007/08 and may give local groups an idea of what could also be eligible in 2008/09:
public education programs
volunteer recruitment campaigns
establishment and upgrade of training facilities
volunteer training.

Eligible groups are those that have a defined role in State or Territory Response or Recovery Plans, and/or member agencies of the Australian Emergency Management Volunteer Forum.

Eligible volunteer emergency management organisations nationwide are encouraged to apply. Applications for funding through the initiative in 2008/09 will close on 7 March 2008.
