Federal Member for Jagajaga, Jenny Macklin MP has alerted local parents and learner drivers to an important online road safety initiative supported by the federal government.
The Keys2Drive initiative is an interactive pilot website that brings together education tools and interactive games, as well as a free driving lesson for both the learner driver and their supervisor – who in many cases is a parent.
The initiative helps work towards the goal of zero harm in the first six months of P plate driving and make newly licensed driving much safer.
"Keys2Drive is a great online tool to help learner drivers and those starting out on our local roads to get more experience, as well as helping those that are supervising them,"
"At this website, young drivers can also apply for a free drivers lesson and locate a free lesson in their area,"
"A young person with less experience is at far greater risk of being involved in a serious car accident than other drivers,"
"Interestingly, young people go from being some of the safest drivers when on their L plates to being one of the most likely to have a car crash when they get their P plates,"
"So, the more support young drivers have, through their early years on the road, is critical,"
"Participants can simply log onto www.keys2drive.com.au to register." Ms Macklin said.
