Nominations open for 2008 Commonwealth Sport Achievement Awards

13 June 2008

Jenny Macklin, Federal Member for Jagajaga, is calling for nominations for the local 2008 Commonwealth Sport Achievement Awards in Jagajaga.

The purpose of the Award is to recognise the efforts of individuals or groups in the following
categories:
  • Individual or team achievement, such as a National or State team selection, regional/state/national competition success, or high level single performance (e.g. Australian or State record).
  • Community sport contribution by individuals, including coaches/referees/umpires and administrators with a minimum of five years’ service.
  • Contribution to sport by schools and community groups, (e.g. Lions, Rotary) or media organisations to a particular sporting event, facility or for continuous support over a minimum of two years.

“Local sport is extremely important for communities – it develops friendships, promotes healthy lifestyles as well as teaching us about ourselves: our strengths and weaknesses.

“There is a vast array of individuals, clubs, and schools and community groups who put in immeasurable hours of work for their sport.

“Their achievements deserve to be acknowledged – so please nominate someone or a team you know who you think have worked hard in sport, whether it is playing, coaching, helping or supporting.

“Nominating is easy and doesn’t take long. Call my office on 9459 1411 or by emailing my office at irene.magoulas@aph.gov.au and an application will be sent out to you.

Nominations must be returned to Jenny’s office by Wednesday 25 June 2008.
