Volunteers Week celebrations!

Volunteers Week runs from 12 – 18 May and the theme this year is “Volunteers change our world”.

 

At the morning tea, local volunteers will receive certificates of appreciation from Ms Macklin and Prime Minister Kevin Rudd in recognition of their contribution to our community. If you are a volunteer, or know someone who volunteers, please contact Ms Macklin’s office on 9459 1411 to register for a certificate.

 

“There is no question volunteers change our world”, Ms Macklin said.

 

“They make our world a better place; a happier place.

 

“So much work is done by local volunteers, be it taking older people shopping, organising local footy teams or cooking sausages for our schools, our community simply could not function without volunteers.

 

Marjatta Jormakka, manager of Banyule Support and Information Service (BANSIC) agrees.

 

“Without the assistance and support of our volunteers, we could not support our community as well as we do”, Ms Jormakka said.

 

“BANSIC offers information, referral and support. As a not-for-profit organisation, we rely heavily on our volunteers.

 

“We are committed to ensuring everyone has equal access to information about their rights, responsibilities and services that are available to them”, said Ms Jormakka.

 

“BANSIC is just one example of how volunteers change our community for the better”, said Ms Macklin.

 

“I encourage local volunteers to come along on Friday 23 May, share a cup of tea or coffee and receive a certificate of appreciation for their selfless contribution to our community”.

 

The Jagajaga Volunteers Week morning tea will be held at 10.00am on Friday 23 May at the Drop In Centre, Uniting Church, 187 Burgundy St Heidelberg. Please contact Jenny Macklin’s office on 9459 1411 before 21 May 2008 if you would like to participate.
